TA DA! Wool Giveaway

Hear Ye Hear Ye…… this is the official announcement of the Wool Giveaway.  Thanks to the generosity of Betsy and Erica of Heavens to Betsy, I am able to share these wonderful wools with one of you lucky hookers!   If you have gotten their samples in the mail  you will notice that one is my namesake “Woodland Junction”.  How honored I am they named the wool after my blog and web site, and am very proud of that beautifully milled piece of wool too.
Since I will be attending rug camp from November 6th until the afternoon of the 9th, figured that would be the ideal time for me to host the giveaway.  That way my absence from my blog wouldn’t be missed and will allow time for word of the giveaway to spread and people to enter the drawing.   So on Thursday November 10th I’ll choose the winner via Random Number Generator and ship out to the lucky winner on Friday the 11th.  Sorry to say this giveaway will be only for the U.S. due to the excessive shipping costs out of the country!!
I am hoping to reach at least a total of 100 FOLLOWERS during this giveaway so if you aren’t already a ‘follower’ please do join, also leave a comment and tell me what brought you to be a hooker or why you love being a rug hooker.  Those are the only two requirements to enter the giveaway ~ be a follower and make a post.
The winner will win these wools (doesn’t include the black background wool tho, since I still need that).  There is a yard and a half (a quarter yard of each) of Betsy’s wool to a lucky winner!  And, I will throw in something additional from me.

I'm looking forward to reading all the comments and find out out how many new followers I have obtained when I return home.  Thank you Betsy and Erica!!

  1. What fun! Wool, wonderful wool! I became a rug hooker through my good friend, Linda. She treated me to my first hook and bought me a great beginner book. I love it!
    Thanks for the great giveaway!

  2. I love Betsy's wool and would love to win this giveaway. I have been hooking for over 15 years and when I can't get around to go shopping (my second favorite past time), I can always sit and hook which I do all the time. It is great to enjoy doing something I know I will always be able to do. Thanks...

  3. Betsy has some wonderful yummy wools. I also get the swatch mailings and it's so nice to see the wools in person. I began hooking about 10 years ago. I saw this rug pattern in a Blackbird Designs book and fell in love with it. I sat out to figure out how to hook and signed up for a class. Unfortunately, the class got canceled and then we were off to Germany with the military. So I got on ebay and found a beginners kit to try on my own. After that, I was hooked. Thanks to you and to Betsy and Erica for this wonderful give away.

  4. I was introduced to hooking years ago while working at a cross stitch shop. I love the whole process from felting and cutting the wool to hooking, I wish that I had found this hobby first as not it compets with stitching. Thanks for sharing your passion, I'm glad I found your blog.

  5. Hello Saundra,

I just became a new rug hooker and found you on the rug hooking yahoo group. I just took my first class this past Sept. but bought my first book back in 2003 when I lived in Germany and working on an American Military base as a nurse. It took me this long to find someone to teach me. But I have loved wool forever and forever.

These wools are truly lovely. I also just learned how to become a follower since yahoo changed it. So I will be a new follower too. Love your blog. Hugs Judy

  7. Saundra,

Have a wonderful time off hooking, you deserve it. How great of Heavens to Betsy to give you the wool for the give-away. Is one of them "Woodland Junction" by chance? How great it would be if I had the opportunity to add these to my stash? Words escape me when I think of it.

Whatever is included is nothing but top rate, like your blog with its tutorials and pictures. I am so proud to be one of the first followers.

Learn lots, laugh lots and take lots of pictures while you are away!

  8. Saundra ~
I signed up for a class in 2005. Well, the class got cancelled but I was determined to learn. I went on eBay and bought more bad wool than I care to admit to. I didn't know any better. For the first few years I hooked alone ~ knew of no other hookers in the area. Once I found other hookers, I was amazed at how many there are around! I've become a much better hooker seeing what others have done. It's very inspiring!
With all that being said, PLEASE PICK ME :)
BTW ~ How cool that Betsy named a wool for you.
    Hugs :)

  10. Hi Saundra, I love Heavens to Betsy wools! I love to hook and started being interested when I bought a hooked rug from PA. It was a pig and sparked my interest.
I am so glad to be a rug hooker the friends I have met and the fun of the craft.

  12. I became a hooker after seeing the rugs of a neighbor's mother. Fascinated by the craft, I found a local teacher (Dick LaBarge), and the rest is history. I have found hooking to be so relaxing, even more so than knitting. No counting, no pattern to consult. Love it!

  13. I am already a follower. What a great give-a-way! I took hooking classes about 16 years ago in Ocean City, MD and have sadly not done much hooking since. I've been gearing up lately-I hooked a little mitten ornament last month. The biggest thing stopping me from tackling a larger project is a lack of wool so I would LOVE to win this give-a-way :)

  15. Hi Saundra,
What a wonderful giveaway! A girl can never have too much wool! I just love looking at your hooked rugs...I'm not a hooker...yet. I'm still looking for a class in my area. I do a lot of wool applique.
Please enter me in your drawing.
    Enjoy your day,

  16. How exciting! I just bought my first rug hooking kit at ATHA and am working on my first rug. This wool would be great to help me start my stash. Thanks for a great giveaway!

  17. I tried to sign up for a course at a local community college to learn how to hook rugs. The class, which had been offered several times before, did not make that time. So, the college gave me the name of the instructor, Susan Quicksall, who gave me private lessons in her home instead. She invited me to a rug hooking gathering where I met such wonderful and talented women. I have enjoyed the friendships and rug hooking ever since.

  18. When I started reading blogs, I began to see photos of primitive hooked rugs and fell in love with them. I didn't find any classes in my area so I took one with a friend when I went back to my home state for a HS class reunion. When I returned home, I discovered an active rug hooking guild nearby that I'd never known about. What luck...it is a wonderful group!

  19. I probably found your blog from the yahoo rughookers group, so I am previous follower. I love all things wool, especially the hunt for good rich colors. I call myself a woolmonger. My wool shelves are full, so I am frantically hooking and doing applique to use it up so I can get more. I would love to win more . . .

  20. I became interested in hooking after my husband bought me a beautiful primitive rug for Christmas several years ago. 21. Hi Saundra, I'm from Canada so I'm not entering this giveaway for the reason you stated, but I joined your followers just the same as I recognized your profile from Rug Hooking Daily. I also remember your beautiful Rothweilders rug. Julia

  22. Hi Saundra, What a pretty name! I became obsessed with rug hooking about 6 years ago after stumbling upon a book of Barb Carroll's in a used book store here in Salem Ma. The book was put aside and re-discovered after my husband had passed away and then I put all my energy and focus into teaching myself how to hook rugs. It has been very therapeutic, healing and very addictive! I have since discovered many others and joined ATHA, a local Chapter and a local hooking group! Can't seem to get enough! I have also discovered Heaven's to Betsy's and I love her wools! Winning her give aways would be as wonderful as winning the lottery but would probably last longer! I hope you are enjoying your rug Camp! Gail

  25. I have always loved all things primitive, so rug hooking and wool gathering just seemed to be a comfortable hobby. Luckily, a local quilting shop has a hooking group that I am apart of. It is always more enjoyable when you can share your "therapy" aka hobby with others. I'd love to win some more wool as it is hard to find way out here in Arizona.

  30. I would say, the look of a hooked rug and the process of pulling loops drew me to rug hooking. I absolutely LOVE everything involved with hooking, from color planning to cutting wool to pulling loops and most of all, all of the wonderful people I've met and places I've been because of rug hooking!!

  31. To learn rug hooking was at the top of my list for quite awhile. I made it a priority two years ago and love it so much. I can easily get lost in time! I would love to win the beautiful wool. I have wanted to try Heaven's to Betsy wool....I drool every time I see the new wool come out. What I love about hooking is that it feels like painting with wool. I am excited to start following you.

  38. If I could hook rugs all day, I would. I started in April with a group in Seville Ohio run by Katie Allman. From the moment I walked into the room , I fell in love. The colors, the patterns, the warmth, the welcoming I received was unbelievable. I have since made 10 rugs and working on a few more. Its a bond that I never felt before. This was a chance to be yourself, work at your own pace, and to have perfect strangers tell you if it really looked good or not. They are honest women who have lives outside of hooking, but can put that aside for a few hours, just to sit with friends and make something beautiful out of a blank canvas. I think it is so great to look around my home and know that I made something that will give my family that warm, homey feeling for many years to come.
I would love to add your giveaway wool to one or more of my rugs that will be a part of my family and my new extended hooking family.

  39. Thanks for offering such a nice give-away. At a family cottage in Canada, there was a hooked rug from the 1940s. It was a winter village scene and I loved it to pieces. When the cottage was sold about 20 years ago, the rug came home to live with me. I looked at it, for about five years, hanging over my fireplace, and decided I had to learn how to make one. The rest is history!
