Springing Forward (Edit #2)

Fran hooked a checkerboard pattern in the rabbit's bodies to give it the optical illusion they are moving.  She said "...it was one of those happy surprises you see when you've finished a mat, stand back and see the rabbits dancing".

And Robin was right, the rabbits were hooked using the beading technique with #8 strips of off white and blue.
Lauren recently finished her Patriotic Dancing Rabbits also.
Laurel sent me her 1st finish which is lovely.  But she said it didn't turn out quite as she first envisioned.  She was thinking more of a Magdalena style but lighter colors.    I know the feeling Laurel, my desire was to hook that antique look with blocks of different background colors.
So she decided to pull out a somewhat darker wool to hook the rabbits in.  I love her background colors!!!!!!!
It's definitely looking like spring and Margaret's bunnies are dancing with joy because they found a cache of Easter eggs.
Finally finished hooking my version of Dancing Rabbits and am in the process of binding it.  Perhaps one day I'll be in the mood to hook the one which was the most vintage looking.  Til then, this will have to do.
My kitchen is looking a bit more spring like also.  Very rarely do I display this Claire Murray rug design named Strawberry Patch.  I thought it would be fun to experience hooking with yarn, the kit was on ebay and purchased it.  That was my first experience with an all yarn rug and my last; but must admit it is cute.  I also made the paper clay rabbit container.  The rug is for sale and measures 29 x 33.5.
Photos of Dancing Rabbits has slowed down.  Happy hooking and enjoy your weekend.

  2. Love the Easter eggs with the Bunnies too !!!! Love your Bunnies too ....they Bounce off the pretty dark background !!!
I tried hooking with yarn a long time ago too . It was frustrating because I kept pulling it out over & over ! I made Snowmen and then coated the back with lots of Modge Podge so it wouldn't come undone ! They are stiff as a board !!!
It is a beautiful sunny day here , 70 degrees !!! We picked up sticks all over the yard ! Tomorrow will be back in the 50;s with rain .

  3. That bunny rug is deceiving. I had no idea it was so large. You sure chose a big project to hook with yarn ;-(
Wonderful Dancing Bunnies. You will get my finished picture soon.

  4. Wowza... you must have one big table...That rug looks like a little mat in the photo...then after seeing GT's comment I rechecked the measurements and yeah...wow. I think I have a yarn "kit" somewhere myself...or had. Just never piqued my interest. I guess I punch, I hook, and that would be something "in between" but just not ringing my bell. I love both of these bunny finishes. The eggs are a cute addition but you know me...I love dark backgrounds and yours is perfect....Love your choice of grass/border too... ~Robin~

  5. Your Strawberry rug is very cheery. If I didn't see the dimensions, I would have thought that it was a small mat. Looks can be deceiving.
I've never tried the punch needle because it has never appealed to me but your rug it's very decorative.

The dancing bunnies have been coming non stop, it's not surprising that they are slowing down by now. It's been a good run on the bunnies. I've lost track of how many entered the challenge. Thanks for the entertainment.

    Have a great weekend.
    Hugs,
    Julia

  14. Oh my! I love all of them...I think the patriotic bunnies is a great theme for this design and I love Laurel's background too. I wouldn't change a thing about her rug! Seeing all the variations is very inspiring.

I repaired a Claire Murray rug years and years ago. It had damage from puppy chewing. It was a time-consuming job because I had to pull some yarn from other places and try to add some new yarn that would match, then trim and try to sew the cotton edge back to its former shape (oval). When the rug came back for a second repair, I did another repair and then kindly advised the owner to keep it off the floor until the puppy grew up.
