Old Found Rug Photos

If you had to get a new computer because of a crash or whatever, then you know the new ones don't have a slot for the old 3.5 floppy.  Uh, sadly there were numerous photos saved on those because at the time was afraid of the new digital cameras. As I'm not so computer literate wasn't sure how to download the photos. So this old fashioned broad used a Mavica camera which used a 3.5 diskette. 

Recently a friend of mine rescued some photos.  From Cape May 2005 here are a few photos.  Not sure who hooked the first two...sorry.

For sure know the hooker of OPRAH was my friend Lynne Fowler.

In 2007 the following rugs were hooked by various people.  Mary Lynne Naples hooked the Top Heavy design.

The flag is a Lucille Festa hooked rug.

This was the year that I was first introduced to Magdalena's Domestic Zoo which is hooked by Evelyn Lawrence in 3 sections.  

There is a booklet researched by Evelyn of Magdalena rugs and published by Kathy Wright.  

Below is a rug by Lucille Festa called Maybelle.

This chicken was a pattern and kit by the late Patsy Becker.

The Cat rug below was an original design by Evelyn Lawrence.

Am making homemade Minestrone soup and still have NOT pulled one loop.  I'm getting ready as I've cleaned up  my worms and put them in their place.  

PLUS.... have also steamed Be Goode Be Nice.  Since my 'new' eye and old eye don't work together (yet) it is still a struggle to see well.  I know it will be wonderful.  But my prescription glasses and my new/old eyes are not cooperating.  Can't wait until both are fixed.

Maybe, uh, just maybe tomorrow I'll have something new to show you.

Oh No What to DO......

There is just a smidgen more to hook on Be Goode Be Nice pattern but at this point I'm saving it to have those last few comforting inches to hook tonight.  This will keep mama happy with a hook in her hand one more evening.

But what will I hook next?  There are so many tempting designs and patterns in my stash. Originally the plan was to start an adaptation of an antique lion.  Uh, notice that blotchy background.

And then Lori of Out of Hand Rughookers has offered up a free winter design which is pulling at my heart strings too.

So am now in a debacle... will definitely give this some thought while pulling the last loops on Be Goode Be Nice pattern.  Which, by the way, still needs to be steamed, bound and ON my harvest table Before HALLOWEEN.

Ramblings to Catch Up

Sorry I've been absent but have a real good excuse.... I had cataract eye surgery on the left eye Monday so that was a totally lost hooking day.  

Then yesterday was the post-op visit and it was equally lost as far as hooking since it was catch up with stuff which didn't get taken care of Monday.  What makes it worse is that I'm not supposed to bend over and put my head below my heart which would put undue pressure on my eye.

And, I'm not supposed to lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk, which means I cannot maneuver a bolt of linen to cut out patterns waiting for orders.  My next post op visit isn't until 10/21 so think I'll call tomorrow to see how much longer before I can move a bolt of linen and get on the floor to cut it since it isn't on a roll to a table.

Anyway, I'm only just a smidgen away from finishing the Goode witch but couldn't wait any longer to make a blog post...oh SO close.

Now I'm in a quandary as to what will go on my frame next.  But since today is the 12th and this delightfully cute Halloween design needs to be on my harvest table before Halloween it needs to be bound. 

Perhaps I'll forgo my desire to put that new rug on the frame right away and finish this one first.   Ohhhh, what sacrifices we hookers make, lol.

Almost Finished, but Not Quite

Sad to say Lauren, that my Goode witch won't be finished by this weekend......

.... am sure it will be done in time to celebrate Hallow's Eve tho.  Right now gracing my harvest table for October is Nantucket Broom Ride which I LOVE also.  Both patterns are offered by Kris Miller of Spruce Ridge Studios and from the art work of Lori Brechlin.  

That little birdhouse was one my grandson Zach painted for me as a gift in 2012 since they know I have birdhouses outside everywhere.  But, this one was going to live inside so grandma could see it every day.

Tomorrow is left eye cataract surgery and I've been good and put all the drops in my eye today except for one more which goes in the eye at bedtime.  I've got a driver and a back up just in case.  Then will sorta chill and take it easy.... UH, lol, like I don't already do that.

Yet will need to be more careful about not bending my head below my heart, no rubbing of the eye and a few other restrictions.  At least this one is almost over and will only have one more eye to deal with and all that comes with it.

Happy Sunday evening.... and LAUREN..... just think... you don't have to go to work tomorrow.  You are actually retired and enjoying life!!!!!!!

Rugs Hooked by my Friend

My friend Deb is creative in numerous ways ~ she makes wonderful jewelry, has woven baskets, quilts, beads, makes dolls and mohair bears and the list goes on.  

Perhaps it is about time some of Deb's wonderful rugs should be shared.  Below is Adam and Eve Plowing the Garden which Deb started at a Barb Carroll camp.

Another huge design Deb hooked was the Animal Parade, a Magdalena design also started with Barb.

The New England Berry Tree is another Woolley Fox Design and, yes, it too was started with Barb in Ligonier. 

Deb is such a generous soul, she hooked this ottoman cover for our friend Toni and am sure that Deb also attached it to the ottoman. 

This is a very fanciful purse dear Deb hooked for me.  While I have used it a couple times I now have it hanging on the wall as a piece of art. Must say tho, that when wearing it I received lots of compliments and inquiries as to where it came from.  So Deb has made some and sold them as well.

This huge rug below probably looks familiar to all of you.  It is from the artwork of one of Picasso's paintings.

Here is the painting named "Picasso's Dream" and you can see the section Deb chose to hook.

Another artist's adaptation is that of Gustav Klimt.  Deb did this rug in an Ali Strebel class and adapted numerous techniques Ali taught us in that class.

 Hildafern was ....yes, started in a Barb Carroll class and is a Woolley Fox design.  For every one of the fern leaves Deb used antique paisley. I never knew there were so many different colors and designs of paisley.

Another Magdalena design hooked by Deb at Barb's.

She has hooked numerous other Woolley Fox designs but I don't have pictures of them all darn it.  Here is a design Deb hooked last year at Cape May with Kris Miller named Little Fox.  It is a Spruce Ridge pattern designed by Ann Willey.  

Deb took some creative license on the fox and changed it to look like daughter Amy's dog Cam (short for Camden Yards, lol) who is  pictured below. 

In another class with Kris and a design from the art work of Lori Brechlin Deb hooked Glad Tidings.  Her hooked pieces is on the web site of Spruce Ridge Studios as the sample.

Okay, I've timed myself out as I could post numerous other wonderful designs my gal pal and perpetual rug camp roomie Deb has hooked.  But I'd like to get back to hooking a little myself so will call it 'time out' for now.  Enjoy your weekend, albiet MORE rain here.

Be Goode, Be Nice

Its time for me to look at the rug in a different venue....the computer monitor.  Today I started hooking the lettering at the top and introduced a different wool so wanted to see if it will work.

At first thought to use the border wool which is Lumber Jack by Heavens to Betsy  which is a brown, deep dark burgundy and other nice dark colors.  Instead decided to use something close but not as dark. Besides there is a bold black hat and witch dress in black at the bottom to balance the dark of the lettering.  

The wording of 'be mine' in the word bubble was hooked using a green like that curve along the right side next to the soft pastel wool from The Wool Studio. Was afraid that might be too soft.

OH!!!!!!  I completely forgot to mention that is not a lost piece of wool on the witch's chinny chin chin.  That is a hair growing from her wart. Kris Miller and I laughed our butts off at the idea of having that.  Uh, and I can relate to having random hairs growing from my chin even tho there's no wart.

Now....funny thing is that after I have my cataract surgery on Monday these photos and the colors of the rug will probably look totally different anyway.

Hope all of you in the wake of the Hurricane come out unscathed. Although the weatherman says we here in Delaware 'may' be okay, we all know that there is nothing certain with Mother Nature and the force of wind and rain.

Antique Rugs

Yeah, it's that time again.  Not a whole lot more accomplished on Be Goode so will give you some rug pictures to entertain you.  The first two rugs should give Kelley a treat, particularly the second one, I like that myself.

The border blocks are certainly adding color to the otherwise black and white rug.

A duck rug with a splash of color.  Sure do like that blotchy 'use what I've got' background.

I've never had the inclination to hook a schooner yet you see them on auction sites often.

I would, however, Like to hook the antique Moby Dick rug.

This is the same rug as above but different lighting.

The horse design below is probably an E.S. Frost Design.

OMG would you look at this yarn sewn rug below?  Totally awesome and cannot fathom the work and hours involved in the process.

A soft Hen and Chicks hooked piece which I think is brilliantly done to show a landscape using very little color but neutral values.  

Okay kids, time for me to eat and get hooking more on my rug.  I need the distraction from the thought of the pending hurricane as well as my cataract surgery on Monday.  But, will the hurricane be here Monday and delay surgery and extend the angst?

Today was a wonderfully mild and cool fall day.  Ben and I enjoyed our walks immensely.

Purple Flower Power

Here is a cool way to hook this flower.  In this picture below your probably wondering how the heck you'd hook those dainty flower petals.  Could you imagine hooking them from the flower part outward with a tail, loop or two and then tail?

Oh no, there is a cool way to hook this flower and it is with the 'beading technique'.  So first I hook the inside part of the flower.

Then using a strip of background color and flower petal color you hook one color at a time altering the color.  If you are a knitter then you know about working two strips of wool yarn at a time and this is the same.

Above is how the left side flower looks after using this technique.  Isn't that the coolest ever?

Yes, there is a hooker's rule (I prefer to call it 'guideline') where we aren't supposed to 'cross over' our hooking.  Yes it does weaken the wool when the rug is used on the floor, but this rug isn't going on the floor so it will be fine.

There is still water in my backyard and into the woods.  The rest of the yard feels like I'm walking on a sponge it is so saturated with water. Yet there is the threat of the hurricane.  Honestly, I'm frightened and tho I don't wish harm on anyone else sure hope it doesn't hit the eastern shore.  Let's hope it heads back out to sea.

Be Goode ~ Be Nice

I wanted so much to hook more on the pattern but as happens to all of us, life gets in the way.  Had more patterns to draw and ship, but hey, that is what helps keep my habit happy.

Now must get serious on what will go on the frame next.  Yes there is more to hook on this one plus the binding.  But binding can be done in a doctor office and I've a few of those coming up.

Next month is another camp with kris in Ocean City, MD so there really isn't a whole lot of time to start even a small rug...mat.  So, Saundra just chill, do the binding on this one so it is ready for the show at next camp.

Sigh.... I'm feeling calmer already.

October, My Favorite Month of the Year

As far as weather, October is my very favorite month of the year because it doesn't require heat or air conditioning.  Normally it is sunny and mild during the day and crisp at night.  Have often said that I could live with 12 months of October but then there's something to be said for the spring and beginning of new buds.

In a previous Cape May rug camp post I mentioned some of the gals going on a Ghost Tour.  While being invited to take one of the tickets declined to stay back and hook.  Not that I was afraid, just wanted to hook.  Perhaps one day I will go.  More on the things the gals told me about the tour later.

If you have been reading my blog for a while then you have seen photos where I've captured orbs.  In 2014 there were numerous orbs which appeared also an image of a woman (I thought) elevated in the curtain in the bar area.  2015 however, although I would call for the ghost or spirit to join me was only able to capture one orb. Interestingly enough, there was no band or music at the Chalfonte last year.

This year there was music and I went to different floors, down hallways, during daylight and evening as well, trying to get the spirts, angels or ghosts to appear.  Guess what, orbs appeared.  So maybe they like to see people have a good time and enjoy music.

I have never seen a ghost and 2014 thought the image along the side of the curtain was a woman but in checking other photos at night realize it may have been a reflection from the light outside.  Dang!  I wanted so much to see a human image.  To enlarge the photo to see more clear just tap on the photo.  There are more orbs from 2014 all you need to do is type the info in the search engine of my blog.

Okay here we go for 2016.... the photo below is obvious and a very dominant orb found in a hallway on the second floor but cannot remember which side of the Chalfonte it was taken.  No I didn't see it while there but only after I checked out the digital photos.  But was definitely calling them to show themselves to me.  Ladies and gents that is no speck of dust on my lens.

 There is an orb on the guitar player's right hand.

Below there is an orb in the top center of curtain on the wall.

There is an orb to the left of the guitar player in the light colored clothing.  This was the impromptu band who started playing earlier in the evening.

 On the wall to the left of the curtain on the left is a faint orb.  I always find orbs in this room, even last year.

A definite orb at the bottom of the foot of the guitar player in grey.  Is it the same orb but it moved or a different one?

See that brown cabinet in the back?  There is a faint, but large orb in the center.

In the photo below there are a couple orbs in the ceiling. 

Guess these spirits/ghosts get around in quick time.  

Okay, what the gals told me standing in chow line at Cape May about their Ghost Tour.  The tour director told the gals that a couple years ago he took a group to a particular spot (maybe the one they were visiting at the time) everyone walked in and within a few minutes a woman ran out screaming and refused to go back in because she saw an image.

The guide also said that some people commented they could feel the hair of dogs rubbing against their legs as they entered a house.  Am sure there would have been other interesting talk if the chow line hadn't moved so fast. 

They also informed me of a book which I purchased in Cape May and immediately read the section on The Chalfonte Hotel.

Here is the Table of Contents.  I'm looking forward to reading it all.

Oh man I'd love to know who those orbs are and wonder if one of them is Theodore?  To learn about Theodore you'd have to get this book by Craig McManus.  

Oh, am sure some of you followers recall my speaking about the floral aroma of the hooked pieces purchased at a thrift shop.  Well I believe that orb which is often in a photo upstairs is that lady enjoying my craft and hooking room.

Believe or not, it is okay with me.  But I believe spirits exist and sure hope that the only ones encountered are the good ones.
