FROM ME TO YOU

In a previous blog post I shared some antique rugs with hearts in hopes of providing ideas for those of you who have no rug on your frame.  Also something to keep you occupied while inside during these frigid temperatures.

Below is a heart butter mold pattern I hooked in 2020.  It is a design by Julie Zakrzewski of  Primitive Heartstrings.
Would also like to give a silhouette of a Cupid for you to use as you wish.  Hook a heart with Cupid in the center, cut out a cardboard image of Cupid and put him in a wreath, or perhaps you'd like to do an applique piece of the image.  However you wish to use this cherub it is yours compliments of me.
Baby it's cold outside.  I don't recall having temps this low for so many days in a row.  Hopefully we will get back to normal cold temps for this time of year for this area soon.

RUGS HOOKED DURING 2020

There were 15 rugs and mats finished during 2020.  First one was a Cushing pattern of a Winter Sled.  Cathy of Acorn Hollow hooked one and posted it on her blog and loved it.  As luck would have it she was given another in a swap and I was fortunate to receive it in a giveaway ~ thanks Cathy.
Since Valentines Day would be the next holiday decided to purchase and Hook Heart Butter Mold pdf pattern from Primitive Heartstrings

Always too many rugs on my to do list and finally drew out the Lancaster Barnyard pdf by Lori Brechlin.
The next pattern I drew was Posies and Stars antique adaptation and this still makes my heart skip a beat.  Must be that border which does it and will take this one for the rug show.
Like many of you I receive daily updates from Lisanne of W. Cushing and as soon as my eyes feasted on Windy Day immediately placed an order for it.  After all I'd just gone thru the March winds and figured this would be a great table piece each windy season.
On my blog I invited readers to join me with a Cat's Paw playtime and had two people join me (Lauren and Elaine).  This is my mat.
Early Bird, a Lori Brechlin design by Spruce Ridge Studios was the next pattern on my frame.  Often I will tweak a design to make it more 'me' so this one has a border all the way around, not just on the top and bottom.  I know the worms were a border of sorts but wanted it to look framed.
Yup, another antique adaptation, I named it Bespectacled Lion because the lion appeared to be wearing glasses.
And.....another antique which I named Pride, Honor, Freedom.  The first block of the triptych design represents Pride in the US, the middle reminded me of fireworks honoring our military and celebrating patriotic holidays.  The third block with the Eagle and Shield represents Freedom.

The Charters of Freedom are group of three documents which protects our freedom:  The Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights.  The framers of our Country were ever thoughtful of citizens at the time.  Tho they did their best to protect us from tyranny little did they know what has transpired since.
Knew Jack's Crow was a no-brainer to hook when I saw it as it is a cutie.  It was purchased  from Terri Lemer of Winter Cottage Studios, you can get yours HERE.  I purchased the pdf and just might hook another later.
Another pattern designed by Lori Brechlin and sold by Spruce Ridge Studios was Old Tom.  Guess you might say I hooked it twice because after hooking it didn't like the too bright colored wool I chose for Tom.  This is what it looked like after reverse hooking and hooking again.
Yet another Lori and Kris offering I chose to hook Merrie October 31st.
The Woolly Santa pattern by Karen Kahle had been in my stash for several years and finally decided to hook it.   Again using my tweaking powers 😏 made my Santa without a sack in front.  Instead he was holding the smaller lamb in his arms instead of it appearing as tho it was popping out of the sack.
Another pattern once seen just had to be mine was New Year's Eve.  It's from the artwork of Lindsay Bowles and pattern by The Wool Farm.  Frankly I'm considering removing the button clock and pulling wool from that area so I can hook the actual clock which was intended to be hooked.
Blogger friend Cathy of Acorn Hollow also hooked it and she did hook the clock.  This is a photo before she was finished and it has so many things that I like more than mine...oh well.  Good job Cathy!!!!!!
The final rug finished in 2020 was Over the Moon, from the artwork of PJ Rankin and pattern by Spruce Ridge Studio.
So there you have the 15 patterns I hooked during the pandemic lockdown.  I  mean,  there was nothing else to do but hook and eat 😁.  Well guess I could have cleaned my house but who would want to do that when they can play with wool?

Today's chore is cutting grass and it just might be the last time it will need cutting this year...if I'm lucky.  The weather is changing and so is the growing cycle.

Heart Butter Mold All hooked

Yippee, all hooked and steamed; now just needs to be bound.  So it will be done to display during February in time for Valentine's Day.  Again, the PDF pattern was designed and offered by Julie of Primitive Heartstrings.

Here it is.
In case you're wondering, yes I already have a new project picked out and it is already drawn.  It is another PDF pattern which I've had for a few years and envied everyone who hooked theirs.  Now it is my turn.  But first must bind this one.

Happy Monday everyone.

Heart Butter Mold Update

Accomplished a little more on Primitive Heartstrings design.  It was a pdf pattern which I enlarged to 15.5 x 17.5.  As you can see, the holding line was hooked just outside the exterior drawn line so the finished piece will be a smidgen larger.
I'm using cuts #8.5, #8 and for the squiggly lines using #6.  The leaves above the heart were hooked with #6 and will probably use some #7 or #8 as well.  Will see what happens as hooking continues.

Early April I have a class with Cindy Irwin so must step up my game on the Cousins rug I want to hook.  Wasn't pleased with my initial try at the drawing on linen so want to redo the sketch of the photo and flip the linen over and redraw the pattern.  It WILL NOT be a narrow cut rug as I plan to hook us in #8 with smaller detail for a hint of an eye, nose, etc.

Yes I know April is 3 months away but I can only endure so much tension with detail as rug hooking is supposed to be fun and plan to keep it that way.  Have already alerted Cindy that I'm a fickle hooker and may hook it in class or not ~ so plan to take two patterns.

On the Frame Again

As I'm typing the title of the post the tune of a Willie Nelson song just popped in my head (On the Road Again).  I'll probably hum that tune all evening long now.  A couple years ago I purchased a pdf pattern from Primitive Heartstrings called "Butter Mold" but I refer to it as Heart Butter Mold since it will be my Valentine's project and has 5 hearts on it.  Actually more if you count the ones inside each other.
Since there is no way to improve on perfection will follow Julie's original color plan.  If you wish to start your own Valentine's project click on the hyperlink above and order yours.  You can enlarge it to whatever size you want, do needle punch or hook it.

Okay, want to check the colors I've used so far.  And as expected I'm not happy with the wavy orange gold ~ I want the more mellow gold.  Found two strips of that in my worm bags and went in search for a more substantial piece.  Can't find anymore in my stash but it's no wonder I can find anything in that pile of wool.
So back to the wool room I go for an intervention ~ an emergency search and rescue.....at least am hoping for a rescue of more of the other gold.

Happy Saturday, or at least it was here and felt like spring with temperatures close to 70* Fahrenheit.  Tomorrow is supposed to be an okay day too but the weather in Delaware is so unpredictable we could have snow in two days.

Easter Display

This is the little vignette which has been displayed on my sofa table for the last week or so.  The rabbit and carrot was made by me several years ago but after seeing Julie's (Primitive Heartstrings) think mine might undergo extra stitching to give it a new look.
The hooked mat is Mr. Cottontail, a design by Brenda Gervais of With They Needle and Thread.

Also, notice the wonderful Running Bunny applique pillow behind the hooked bunny mat which I was lucky enough to score in a 'giveaway' hosted by Julie last year ~ thanks again Julie.

As the saying goes....'when it rains it pours'.  Three days ago I began to notice extremely hot water coming out of my shower and spigots.  Called a plumber yesterday and he was able to get here this morning.  And, should be no surprise to me that I need a new water heater.

Do you know how much water heaters are???  Expensive.  Do you know how much a plumber's labor is per hour?  Expensive.  He is still here at noon and arrived around 9:30 and don't have his bill yet but will be sitting down when I get it.

Oh, and the bulk of the trees are still in my yard.  OY!  LIke I said, "when it rains it pours".

Lucky Winner....Me

Much to my surprise I was the lucky winner of Julie's Giveaway.  It arrived yesterday and was wrapped beautifully with some fresh lavender.
And when the prize was revealed it looks prettier in person than on her blog.  Will save a view of the front for later...first the back has aged pillow ticking for the country look I like.
Her crossed stitches on the edges are perfectly done (everything she does is with perfection).
The front is an aged tapestry which has easter flower colors and of course the applique brown bunny with blue ribbon.  If I'm not mistaken, think I detect a mild clove scent on the pillow.
Naturally I had to make a proper place for the bunny pillow for Easter.
On my sofa table it is nestled in between a velveteen bunny left over from my craft show days and a hooked mat named Mr. Cottontail, a design by Brenda Gervais.

Thanks for your generosity Julie, it will surely be treasured.
